It turned out, yesterday's storm downed power lines, ripped up trees, and may even have produced a tornado mere blocks away. It cleared up long enough for me to go to the gym and return home before starting up again. :) Mother Nature must read my blog - Thank you!

Mike is on the hunt for a motorcycle. He seeks a ~600cc sport bike priced between $2500-$5000 and has been actively searching the classifieds in Missouri AND Wisconsin. I would prefer he go down to a 500cc but there doesn't seem to be much available... His preference leans towards a Ducati Monster 620 or Suzuki SV650, although I think he would be open to anything matching his specifications....I can't wait till he gets a bike. I've been itching to re-break in the bike on the backroads of St. Louis!

We have a guest visiting us from Wisconsin this weekend so we took a little time last night to straighten the house and clean the sheets my sister slept in. It looks like we'll entertain him with the St. Louis Brewfest, golfing, shooting range time, and barbequing. Should be a good!

Ducatis are a service nightmare and require valve adjustments every 6000 miles... but beautiful.

The beauty of the bike means it will hurt that much more when he drops it.

Used SV-650 (non-faired, old style with the circular tubing frame) would get my vote. Bandit 600 (old style air/oil cooled) is another good one. The SV-650 would get the nod from me based on the availability of aftermarket parts since it's a popular track bike.

If fully faired is a MUST... 1997 VFR750. Solid engine is easy to ride (no high strung inline four rev monster), bullet proof Honda everything, 16000 miles between valve adjustments and incredibly stable on the brakes thanks to the compact V4. Low mileage versions can be had for a few thousand. It's a 750, but it's not a race-bred 750... very rideable.

VFRs are also workhorses. My current '02 has 60,000 miles, the wife has had two '00 models at 40,000 each and that's common.

Thanks! Awesome input. I will pass that along to Mike and will keep all posted on what he does finally get!

You should tell him to buy Mike's '02 GSXR 600 ;) It's posted for $5000, but I'm sure he'd drop the price a bit for your Mike. Street legal and clean title - just needs street plastics and lights. Nothing wrong with it - he just misses his R6!

$5k and no plastics? What has he added to it?

It has plastics - they're just race plastics. (Which actually might not be such a bad thing for someone learning how to ride ;) haha).

Okay, I'm gonna try to do this from memory, 'cause Mike's at work:
The rear shock alone is worth about $1200 - it's a Penske triple clicker. Comes w/ lots of extras (extra gas tank, etc.) New brakes. It's actually been impressing everyone at the track - it can pull a 750 on the straight. But we've also been told "it's the most stable bike I've ever ridden" by multiple people.

Mike is just used to the R6 and isn't too keen on learning a whole new riding style to get used to the gsxr. The '02 gsxr is a lot wider than the R6.

If you guys are interested, I'm sure he'd be happy to give you all the details! :)
